If you have heard of AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud but never looked at Alibaba Cloud certification in Pakistan, you may be missing one of the biggest open career opportunities in the country right now. Alibaba Cloud (also called Aliyun) is the largest cloud provider in Asia-Pacific and one of the top four globally (Canalys, Q4 2025), yet almost no one in Pakistan is certified in it. This guide explains what Alibaba Cloud is, why it matters for Pakistan, and how to get certified.
Thousands of Pakistani professionals chase AWS and Azure certifications. Alibaba Cloud is still an open field. Combined with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), that creates a real first-mover window — but it will not stay open forever.
What is Alibaba Cloud?
Alibaba Cloud is the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, the Chinese technology company behind Alibaba.com, Taobao, AliExpress, and Ant Financial. Founded in 2009, it offers cloud computing, storage, databases, networking, security, machine learning, and big data analytics. As of 2025, Alibaba Cloud operates 87 availability zones across 29 regions worldwide (see alibabacloud.com/global-locations for the current count). It serves more than 4 million customers and runs the cloud backbone for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. During Singles’ Day 2020, the platform processed roughly 583,000 orders per second at peak (Alibaba Cloud press release, November 2020).
Think of Alibaba Cloud as the Asia-Pacific equivalent of AWS. The core services line up directly:
- ECS (Elastic Compute Service) is comparable to AWS EC2
- OSS (Object Storage Service) is comparable to AWS S3
- ApsaraDB is comparable to AWS RDS
- SLB (Server Load Balancer) is comparable to AWS ELB
- VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) maps directly to AWS VPC
The differences matter for businesses operating in China, the Middle East, and Africa, where Alibaba Cloud has a stronger regional presence and pricing.
Why Alibaba Cloud matters for Pakistan: the CPEC connection
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a long-running infrastructure and development project connecting Gwadar Port to Xinjiang (see cpec.gov.pk for the current valuation, which has been revised several times since the original $46 billion figure). CPEC covers more than roads, railways, and power plants — a significant share of the budget now goes into digital infrastructure, smart cities, and technology parks.
Here is why that matters for your career.
Chinese companies setting up operations in Pakistan through CPEC need IT staff who can work with Alibaba Cloud, since that is the platform most of them already use back home. Smart-city initiatives in Islamabad, Lahore, and Gwadar are bringing cloud infrastructure work to Pakistan that did not exist five years ago. The special economic zones inside CPEC attract Chinese-backed tech firms that need local hires familiar with their tooling. And competition is almost non-existent: while hundreds of AWS-certified professionals chase the same Pakistani job postings, certified Alibaba Cloud professionals in the country number in the dozens. That gap is the real opportunity.
Alibaba Cloud vs AWS: how they compare
For Pakistani candidates choosing where to invest study time, the practical differences matter more than feature lists.

If your goal is to differentiate yourself in the Pakistani market, Alibaba Cloud gives you a position almost no one else holds. If your goal is to compete for US-based remote work, AWS is still the default. Many of our students do both — the technical concepts transfer almost one-to-one.
Alibaba Cloud certification paths
Alibaba Cloud offers a three-tier certification ladder similar to AWS and Azure.
The ACA (Alibaba Cloud Associate) is the entry-level certification. The ACA Cloud Computing exam covers core services including ECS, OSS, SLB, VPC, and security basics. No prior experience is required, and most candidates prepare in four to six weeks. This certification proves you understand the Alibaba Cloud ecosystem and can perform basic cloud operations. The exam costs around $120 USD (roughly PKR 33,000 at current rates) and is delivered through Pearson VUE, with test-centre options in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, plus online proctored (OnVUE) options from home.
The ACP (Alibaba Cloud Professional) is the mid-tier certification. It covers advanced cloud architecture, high-availability design, and enterprise deployments — equivalent in career impact to the AWS Solutions Architect Associate. Candidates should have six to twelve months of hands-on experience before attempting it. The exam costs around $300 USD (roughly PKR 84,000).
The ACE (Alibaba Cloud Expert) is the expert tier, aimed at senior cloud architects designing complex enterprise systems. Most working professionals will not attempt the ACE in their first three years.
All three exams are currently delivered in English and Mandarin. The exams themselves are not available in Urdu, but Sherdil E-Learning is one of the only providers in Pakistan that teaches the underlying course material in Urdu.
Our Alibaba Cloud ACA + ACP course in Urdu covers both Associate and Professional levels; English-medium candidates can take the Alibaba ACA Essentials course. Certifications are valid for two years and can be renewed by passing the current version of the exam.
Getting started with Alibaba Cloud
Here is a practical roadmap.
- Create a free account at alibabacloud.com. New users typically get free trial credits — verify the current promo amount at sign-up.
- Enroll in Sherdil’s Alibaba Cloud course and start with the ACA modules.
- Work through hands-on labs using your free credits. Focus on ECS (virtual machines), OSS (storage), and VPC (networking) first — these three account for the bulk of the ACA exam.
- Book the ACA Cloud Computing exam after four to six weeks of study.
- Get six to twelve months of practical experience, then progress to the ACP.
Common mistakes Pakistani candidates make
From watching our cohorts at Sherdil (internal observations, 2025–2026):
- Skipping the labs. The most common reason for ACA failure is studying only the theory. The exam asks you to identify which Alibaba Cloud service solves a given scenario; you cannot answer that from the slides alone.
- Booking the exam too early. Candidates who pass on the first attempt average around five weeks of part-time study. Booking after two weeks because the registration fee is non-refundable is a recurring pattern we see.
- Confusing AWS service names on the ACP. Candidates with prior AWS experience sometimes write "S3" or "EC2" in scenario answers. The exam is strict about Alibaba Cloud naming.
- Ignoring billing modules. Roughly 15% of the ACA exam covers pricing models, subscription vs pay-as-you-go, and resource-package billing. Most self-study guides skip this entirely.
Career opportunities with Alibaba Cloud in Pakistan
Several types of roles are opening up for Alibaba Cloud-certified professionals.
A cloud engineer at CPEC-linked companies is the most common entry point. Chinese firms setting up Pakistani operations need local staff who already know their cloud platform; the alternative is flying in engineers from Hangzhou, which is expensive.
A cloud consultant or freelancer is the highest-leverage path. With minimal local competition, you can position yourself as the Alibaba Cloud expert on Upwork and Fiverr for clients in Asia, the Gulf, and East Africa. Freelance rates for certified Alibaba Cloud work currently start around $20–$40 per hour (sourced from active Upwork listings, Q1 2026).
Smart-city project engineer roles are emerging in Islamabad, Lahore, and Gwadar as CPEC digital projects move from planning to deployment.
Multicloud architect is the long game. Companies increasingly use more than one cloud provider; being certified in Alibaba Cloud alongside AWS or Azure makes you a rare hire.
Expected monthly salaries for these roles range from PKR 100,000 to PKR 300,000+, with premium rates for CPEC-linked projects (based on Sherdil’s monitoring of Rozee.pk and LinkedIn postings, 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Is Alibaba Cloud certification recognised internationally?
Yes. Alibaba Cloud certifications are recognised globally, particularly by companies operating in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. They are increasingly valued by multinational companies running multicloud strategies.
Is Alibaba Cloud only for Chinese companies?
No. Alibaba Cloud has strong Chinese roots but serves customers in over 200 countries. Non-Chinese companies, NGOs, and government organisations use it widely, especially for operations in Asia.
Can I learn Alibaba Cloud in Urdu?
The exams are delivered in English or Mandarin. The course material, however, is available in Urdu through Sherdil E-Learning. See the Alibaba Cloud ACA + ACP course page for details.
How long does it take to get certified?
Most Sherdil students who pass the ACA on the first attempt spend four to six weeks studying part-time. The ACP typically requires six to twelve months of practical experience on top of the Associate.
